Ben Bonart
The instinct of an artist.
The trained eye of a designer.
For Ben Bonart, painting has never been a departure from his artistic journey; it has been the constant thread running through it.
After building a career in advertising and design, where he developed a deep understanding of visual language and how imagery shapes identity and emotion, he brought that same discipline and insight directly into his studio practice.
The work is known for its vibrant energy and layered surfaces created through a deliberate process of applying paint, gold and silver leaf, and a sequence of controlled gestures – cuts, splatter, and pulls, that build depth and movement within the painting. The metallic leaf is not decorative. It is structural. It interacts with light and subtly changes how a painting and the surrounding room feel throughout the day.
Over the years, Ben has created a significant body of work that now lives in private homes, corporate collections, and interior design projects across the United States. His studio continues to evolve, offering selected works and private commissions for collectors, designers, and advisors seeking art that brings light and joy to the spaces where people live and gather.
Earlier artist statement (2024)
My art is a combination of chance and deliberation. I apply layers of paint and texture using a variety of tools and techniques to create shapes and forms. All grounded by shimmering gold leaf to create impasto surfaces with rich color and depth.
BOUQUET: 41″ X35,” Acrylic on Canvas – Abstract bouquet of color and movement highlighted by shimmering gold.
Morning Sail: 38″X36,” Acrylic on Canvas – See what you will in the abstract and graphic seascape. Full of color and energy, it speaks to you differently every time you see it.
Every Season: 36″X48,” Acrylic & Gold Leaf on Canvas – A light, joyful composition unfolds here, filled with color, movement, and a sense of warmth that feels both uplifting and serene. I created The Seasons as a variation of my Seasons collection, layering vibrant color over shimmering gold to let each tree express a moment in time through texture, light, and form. This piece is about joy and balance – the simple beauty of nature’s rhythm and the feeling of peace that comes from embracing every season.
Misty Morning – 36″X48,” Acrylic on Canvas – Arresting blues on abstract field bring a soft and peaceful and happy feeling to this painting.
