THE ART OF JOHN WAYNE JACKSON
THE ARTIST
Working from my studio in the hills of Black Mountain, NC, I find inspiration in exploring new techniques and finishes. A willingness to fail is the most precious asset I possess. Tapping into this passion for experimentation, my take on mixed media art pushes the boundaries of what others have done. It allows me to push beyond what is known into new creative territory.
THE ART
Mixed media fusion combines acrylic paint, sprays, solvents, powdered metals, mica and a variety of pigments and dyes. Into that, I introduce chemistry that disturbs these media by causing chemical reactions, creating an entirely new medium. My resulting works create textured three-dimensional illusions that challenge the viewer to reconcile what they see as three-dimensional within material that is smooth and credit card thin.
JOHN’S BACKGROUND
John’s previous career included international consulting in leadership, innovation, communication, and team-building. The transition to professional artist was a big stretch. “I’ve learned to enjoy working alone now…having had people around me throughout my consulting career. In working alone, I’ve also learned to let my imagination run wild.”
John and his wife/partner, Paige, work together and make their home in Black Mountain, North Carolina.
