Born in Mexico City as the youngest of six, Leon Ruiz comes from a lineage of artists that fueled his passion for painting, influenced by his grandfather’s religious murals in large Mexican cathedrals and his cousin Arturo Ruiz Moncada’s work in the Sistine Chapel. After combining his love for creative expression with a stable career in civil engineering and architecture, Leon pursued fine arts in Mexico and the U.S., earning an MFA from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. With over 30 years of professional experience, Leon has exhibited his work widely, winning numerous awards and constantly evolving his artistic style, drawing inspiration from both nature and urban life. His diverse mediums, including oils and acrylics, allow him to experiment with textures and colors, and his work continues to grow and receive recognition at art shows and festivals nationwide. Over the past three years, Leon has been selected as the featured artist for prominent events such as ArtFest Fort Myers in 2022, IMAGES: A Festival of the Arts in 2022, ArtiGras Fine Arts Festival in 2023, and Mainsail Art Festival in 2023. Additionally, he has been honored with the prestigious title of “Best Painter of the Show” at the Cape Coral Art Festival & Marketplace for three consecutive years.
