Derek St. Holmes

Known primarily as the rhythm guitarist and vocalist on Ted Nugent’s early (and best) solo albums, Derek St. Holmes has also subsequently lent his talents to recordings by other artists and by the dawn of the 21st century, finally launched his own solo career.

Hailing from a small city not far from Detroit (Riverview, MI) Derek became originally interested in music via his mother, who sang regularly in a church choir. Not long after Derek picked up guitar and began to sing himself and was influenced by the usual Brit-rock suspects of the ’60’s (the Rolling Stones, the Beatles), but also soul and blues artists (Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, B.B. King).

By the early ’70 Derek was fronting a local Michigan rock outfit called Scott, who opened up several shows for Ted Nugent. Ted’s singer at the time left the Motor City Madman high and dry and several auditions were arranged with Derek all of which proved unfruitful. Just s Derek about to relocate to the West Coast to try his luck there, a final audition was arranged and this, Derek and Ted decided to unite.

Igor & the Red Elvises

Igor Yuzov was born in Germany, raised in Ukraine and studied in Russia. He grew up in the former Soviet Union, where folk music was the norm and rock’n’roll was illegal. A rebellious streak, however, led him to seek out the forbidden music. As soon as it became possible, Igor left Russia for America with his “Folk’n’Roll” band Limpopo and was personally greeted by Ronald Reagan. In 1993, Limpopo won Ed McMahon’s Star Search and their popularity began to blossom. In 1995, Igor dreamed that Elvis Presley came to him and told him to start playing rock’n’roll. Igor and his Russian friends became Red Elvises and gave street performances on Santa Monica’s 3rd Street Promenade. As their crowds grew larger, the City of Santa Monica ordered them to discontinue their street performances. Evolving over the years, Igor’s music has been labeled “Siberian Surf Rock” which contains humorous lyrics and grooves that forces his audience to dance. Over the past 20 years, Red Elvises have constantly toured all over the world with occasional breaks to record new music and to participate in film and television projects.

As an independent band, Red Elvises have produced 12 studio albums, two live albums, a live concert DVD, and a Greatest Hits compilation. Some of their most notable film contributions include music and or performances in “Six String Samurai”, “Mail Order Bride”, “Armageddon”, “Skippy”,  “Melrose Place”, “Fastlane”, “Penn and Teller’s Sin City Extravaganza”, “VH-1 Behind the Music”, and “MTV”. Magnolia Boulevard

“When we’re onstage we play with a lot of emotion.” Noelle says.  “And then we feed off the crowd’s emotional reaction to us and we git it right back to them.”

Central to the Magnolia Boulevard experience is a sound that flows easily and seamlessly from a multitude of stylistic tributaries.  There’s plenty of blues, soul and rock ’n roll in the mix, but also elements of funk, jam band, folk, country, bluegrass and psychedelia.  It’s all fueled by the rhythm section’s elastic grooves. shot through with Erwin’s expressive and incisive slide guitar licks and topped by Noelle’s soul-stirring, powerhouse vocals.

“I think it was Gregg Allman who once said, ‘If there’s 10,000 people in the audience and they have one-and-a-half problems each, that’s 15,000 problems out there,” says Erwin. “So if you can put your heart into something and get onstage and help the audience forget about those problems for a couple of hours, then, you know, your job’s done. That’s the greatest satisfaction one can achieve, I believe.”

Mike Tozier

Mike Tozier is one of the longest-running acoustic musicians in the Bay area.  Mike plays with a barrelhouse-style reminiscent of John Hammond and guitar prowess to spare on his dobro and acoustic guitar. A Best of the Bay award-winning artist, Mike remains a down-to-earth, salt-of-the-earth fellow that puts on a heck of a show merging country, folk, Delta Blues and Americana.
